Two things make Wimbledon blocks different from most of our Surrey work. The first is flooring: SW19 has a high proportion of mansion blocks and period conversions with polished stone or ceramic tiled entrance halls rather than carpet. Hard floors are mopped, not vacuumed, and they show every footprint and every wet-day smear. That usually pushes a block towards a more frequent visit than a carpeted one of the same size.

The second is access. Larger Wimbledon developments have several separate cores, each with its own entrance, and parking courtyards that a cleaner has to get into before they can get into the building. We agree the core order, the parking arrangement and the key or fob holding before the first visit, not on the morning of it.

What a Wimbledon block clean usually involves

• Stone and ceramic tiled halls mopped with controlled water, so the floor is dry quickly and is not a slip risk
• Barrier matting lifted, the tile beneath cleaned and the matting vacuumed, because grit collects underneath it
• Panelled walls, dado rails and skirting dusted and wiped
• Internal glass cleaned, including stained glass panels and entrance door panes
• Post box fronts wiped and dropped mail cleared
• External entrance areas and the courtyard approach litter-picked on arrival
