Daily Communal Cleaning in Wimbledon

Every weekday 2 Storeys Several entrance cores Communal Block Clean

The property

A red brick period development in Wimbledon, converted to flats, set around a block-paved parking courtyard with clipped hedging. Unusually for the blocks we clean, the communal floors here are hard rather than carpeted. The main entrance hall has a polished stone tiled floor, a stone staircase, panelled walls and a stained glass window; a second core has a ceramic tiled lobby with a bank of nine aluminium post boxes and barrier matting at the door.

What the managing agent needed

A hard floor rewards a daily clean in a way carpet does not. Polished stone shows every footprint and every rain-day smear, and a development presented to this standard cannot carry that between visits. The managing agent needed the entrance halls mopped and presentable at the start of each day, and the external entrance areas kept clear.

What the clean covers

  • Mop the stone and ceramic tiled floors in both entrance halls
  • Lift the barrier matting, clean the tile beneath it and vacuum the matting itself, because grit collects under it
  • Dust and wipe the panelled walls, dado rails and skirting
  • Clean the internal glass, including the stained glass window and the entrance door panes
  • Wipe the post box fronts and clear dropped mail from the floor
  • Sanitise the stair handrail, entrance door furniture and intercom panels
  • Litter-pick the external entrance areas and courtyard approach on arrival

How the clean is delivered

The development is cleaned every weekday on a fixed morning round, each core in turn, so the halls are done before most residents leave. Hard floors are mopped with a controlled amount of water and left to dry quickly. A wet stone floor at an entrance is a slip risk, not a sign of a good clean.

Because the visit is daily, problems surface fast. Anything we find, such as a failed light in a stairwell or damage in the courtyard, goes to the managing agent the same morning rather than waiting for a weekly report.
